August 6, 1944 HMCS HAIDA sinks German minesweeper M486 off Ile d’Yeu, Bay of Biscay. LS R.H. Betts, and AB G.J. Rowe, both killed in action Aug 6, 1944. A/S Kerwin awarded the Conspicuous Gallantry Medal. (This was the second CGM awarded to the RCN. The first was Max Bernay’s on August 6, 1942).
August 30, 1943 HMCS HAIDA commissioned at Newcastle on Tyne. Cdr Henry George DeWolf appointed Commanding Officer
August 30, 2001 15 Gun Salute for the burial of Vice Admiral DeWolf. HMCS Haida fired the salute to him as he was being buried in Bedford Basin.
